Abstract
David W. Zimmerman (1901-1993) was deputy state superintendent of schools in Maryland from 1961 to 1969. In this oral history interview, Zimmerman discusses the role of the civil rights movement in public education; desegregation in schools; pressure from freedom fighter Lillie May Carroll Jackson and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP); unequal salaries; Brown v. Board of Education; Baltimore City and County relations; and busing for integration.
