Biographical / Historical
Elizabeth Brown Edmands Caswell (1817-1880) was the daughter of Thomas Edmands of Newton, Massachusetts. In 1835, she became the second wife of Alexis Seaver Caswell (1799-1877), of Providence, Rhode Island. Reverend Caswell served as president of Brown University, where he had been a professor of mathematics and natural philosophy, from 1868-1872. The couple had no children.
