Gist, Clara Reinicker, undated

Daguerreotype portrait of Clara Reinicker Gist, age 80. A native of Hesse-Cassel, Germany, Clara married Major Cornelius Howard Gist (1770-1830) of Baltimore County in 1792. In 1814, the family moved to Brooke County, Virginia (now West Virginia), and stayed there until her death.

Clara and Cornelius Gist were parents to: John Reinicker (1793-1796); William Howard (1795-1844), married Margaret Ann Kipp; Elizabeth Pamela (1798-1821); Pamelia Howard (1801-1885), married Conrad Reinicker Fite; Louisiana (1804-1881), married Basil Beall; Cornelius Howard (1807-1877), married Isabel Moore; George (1810-1845); Emeline (1813-1907), married Joseph Boyle; Joshua Wells (1817-1902), married Maria Waugh; and Joseph Christopher (1820-1892), married Elizabeth Colver.
