Biographical / Historical

Wilhelmina Niemann was born October 8, 1835 in Schledehausen, Germany. At the age of 16, she immigrated from Bremen to Baltimore aboard the Chesapeake. She married Wilhelm Frederick Vordemberge in 1857, and the couple were parents to eight children, of whom six survived: Herman (1859-1889); Henry Christoph (1861-); Mary Anna (1863-); Louis Matthew (1865-); Caroline (1867-1925); and Elizabeth (1869-1945). The Vordemberges owned a grocery story located on 230 Hanover Street in Baltimore. Wilhelmina died on March 18, 1912 at the age of 77. She is buried in Baltimore Cemetery.
