Abstract
James Mallahan Cain (1892-1977) was a journalist and author of novels, plays, and short stories. In this interview, he discusses his experiences as a Hollywood screenwriter, 1931-1948, and as managing editor of the New Yorker magazine in 1931; his later life (1950 on) in Hyattsville, Maryland. Cain also discusses his recollections of H. L. Mencken, Harold Ross, Walter Lippman, George Anthell, and many other screenwriters, actors, and journalists.
