Summary: Says regiment is now at Staunton for purposes of recruiting, having been reduced to 150 out of 800 men; has read extracts from northern papers, including General [Nathaniel P.] Banks' official report, and all have "outrageous and villainous" lies; describes in some detail the course of the Valley Campaign, especially the battle at Front Royal, Winchester, Strasburg, and Port Republic; mentions death of General [Turner] Ashby.
