Summary: Surgeon's diary. The diary, written in pencil, describes the living conditions and daily activities in tending and moving the wounded on the battlefield during the Civil War. The writer states that he has had little to eat and no sleep. He mentions medication administered and details a number of "medical recipes." Three pages are devoted to the making of red ink and black ink.
