1) Lincoln will be elected and carry Maryland, particularly because people will reject McClellan and the Democratic peace platform. 2) Lincoln is the best candidate for the Union Party and the Union, for no other Union candidate could be elected, especially if he were supported by those strongly opposed to Lincoln.
