Biographical / Historical

The Committee for the Preservation of Assateague Island was a tri-state committee formed early 1964 to organize support for making Assateague a National Seashore, by writing letters, sending representatives to Congressional hearings, etc. C. A. Porter Hopkins was president and Claude Callegary was vice-president. The committee worked out of 413 St. Paul Place, Baltimore and presumably disbanded after legislation was passed in the summer of 1965.
