Troop family letters

The Troop family letters is a collection of family papers which revolve around the relationship which developed between Elizabeth [McKerlie] Troop, a sea captain's widow who made her home in Baltimore City, and the family of her deceased husband, Captain Andrew Troop.

Of the 49 items which make up the collection, 21 of these are letters addressed to Mrs. Elizabeth Troop. These letters, written by various members of the Troop family of Glasgow and Greenock, Scotland are primarily concerned with the financial affairs of the dwindling Troop estate to which Mrs. Troop's daughter, Helen was an heir.

Correspondents which figure prominently in this series include: J. Crawford Troop Lindsay and her husband, George Lindsay (sister and brother-in-law to Elizabeth Troop); Mary Troop Fairrie and her daughter, Jane Fairrie Cameron (sister-in-law and niece of Elizabeth Troop); Helen Troop and her husband, William D. Miller; Andrew Patterson (nephew to Elizabeth Troop); and finally James S.Lindsay. Also included in the collection are letters to: Capt. Andrew Troop, Helen Troop Miller, William D.Miller, Mayhew Miller, and Ruth Miller (Mrs. Mayhew Miller). A funeral notice (1823), an invitation, 1875, and a poem, 1835, are also part of the collection.
