Scope and Contents

This collection consists of 14 photographs and manuscript materials related to the Despeaux family and James I. Mitchell (9/22/1905 – 7/26/1961). The collection is broken down into two series.

Series I: Despeaux Family

This series consists of 7 photographs of various members of the Despeaux, Steen and Eccleston families. There are also 4 photographs of the Despeaux lot monument.

There is also one folder of genealogical materials on the Despeaux, Steen, Eccleston, and Mitchell families.

Six additional photographs of Despeaux, Eccleston and Gore family members have been removed from the collection and are housed in the cased photograph collection. These are listed in the container list below.

Series II: James I. Mitchell

This series contains materials related to James Mitchell’s service as a member of the U.S. Army’s 29th Division during World War II. Included are two photographs and documents related to Mitchell’s army service.
