Biographical / Historical
The Advertising Club of Baltimore was founded in 1909 as the Advertisers’ Round Table. The founders’ aim was to promote truth in advertising, and the group eventually expanded its focus promote Baltimore City’s business and cultural attributes. The club became known for its annual banquets which featured antics and celebrity appearances. The club bestowed “Outstanding Television Personality” awards on such notables as Jim Nabors and Art Linkletter. The organization also hosted an annual “Man of the Year” gala to honor those who had positively contributed to Baltimore and the community-at-large.

Arrangement
The collection is arranged into four series which are representative of content: Albums, Robert Welch Photographs, Advertising Club events, and Ephemera. The photographs in Series II: Robert Welch photographs appear to be from Welch’s personal collection, as many of the headshots are autographed to him or include him in the photographs. Most of the images in Series III: Advertising Club Events are of President Ronald Reagan’s speech at a Flag Day ceremony at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland. The photographs are generally arranged in chronological order and/or retain the original order. Multiple copies have the same photograph have been given the same image identification number.

Scope and Contents
The collection contains photographs of Advertising Club of Baltimore events collected by various members. This includes the club’s annual Maypole Dance, “Man of the Year” award ceremony, and other events from the 1950’s to the 1980’s. Most of the photographs are unlabeled, but some events and people could be determined. Several celebrities are represented in the collection, including Andy Griffith, Milton Berle, Johnny Unitas, and Brooks Robinson.
