Biographical / Historical

The William S. Marston School, also known as the University School for Boys, was founded in 1880 by William Staples Marston (1854-1926). The school occupied several buildings in Baltimore before moving to the Riderwood neighborhood in Baltimore County. The county campus boasted 21 acres west of Bellona Avenue and south of Joppa Road. Marston served as headmaster until his death and was succeeded his son, W. Woodruff Marston (1881- 1969). Financial difficulties forced the school to close in 1932.
