Biographical Note

William Madsen Andersen served in the Quartermaster Corps during World War I. Andersen was born in Baltimore in 1892 to Andrew and Mary Fraser Andersen. He married Mary Jane Beemer, and had three children, William Andrew, Sarah Alexa, and Nancy Jane. In his civilian life, Andersen worked in banking and commerce. These skills allowed him to join the Quartermaster Corps, and he received the rank of Second Lieutenant. He worked in payroll for Base Hospital 60, which operated out of Bazoilles-sur-Meuses, Department of Vosges, France. The hospital cared for patients until March 31, 1919, when it was decommissioned. Andersen’s service ended with the closing of the hospital and returned to the United States on July 2, 1919. He died in 1934.
