Colonial period in Maryland collection

 Collection
Identifier: MS 2018

Abstract

This is an artificial collection consisting of over 600 items, dating from the 1620s to 1775. The collection contains the following types of material: financial and business records (invoices, receipts, accounts, bonds, etc.); land records (deeds, surveys, rent rolls, leases, etc.); military records (commissions, military correspondence, etc.); official and government documents (court proceedings, warrants for arrests, etc.); personal and family documents (correspondence, inventories of estates, wills, etc.); and miscellaneous general documents, such as memoranda and notes of different kinds. Although many of these documents deal with the Calverts and other wealthy or influential personalities of the period, there are also records concerning slaves, convicts, and anonymous persons. In addition to original documents and copies, this collection also includes extracts of and indexes to original records. A few items are secondary materials dealing with the Colonial Period.
