School integration

The Calvert County Retired Teachers Association oral history collection includes a series of interviews on the history of one-room schoolhouses in Calvert County, Maryland. The narrators include both teachers and students who were involved with a number of different schools from the 1920s to the early 1980s.

This collection contains correspondence, oral history transcripts, typescripts of speeches and books, and subject files. The bulk of the material concerns Dr. Thomas G. Pullen's (1898-1979) contribution to education in Maryland, especially the desegregation of public schools and the accreditation of the University of Baltimore.

This collection contains photographs made or collected by Dr. Thomas G. Pullen, Jr., with subjects related to Dr. Pullen and his wife, Louise Rowe Pullen, as well as their family and friends. The dates of the collection span 1917-1972.
