Scope and Contents
This collection primarily contains the business papers, land records, and Estate Record Book of Levi Hollingsworth (1765-1822), a Baltimore merchant, copper manufacturer, and public official. Other Hollingsworth family materials in the collection pertain to Levi's relatives located in Cecil County, Md. and include land grants and surveys. Additionally, the collection contains several items belonging to Levi's father-in-law and brother-in-law, Dr. Nathan Dorsey (1754-1806) and John Sword Dorsey (1785-1804), respectively. Among these items is Dr. Dorsey's commission of Surgeon General of the Pennsylvania Militia and a brief diary written by John Dorsey while in the Navy.
