Scope and Contents
This collection contains a small amount of materials such as correspondence and financial records from two families, the Maryes and the Gittings. The items of William Bose Marye—whose father was William Nelson Marye and mother was Elizabeth Bose Gittings—include a grade report book; bank account records; and several childhood portrait photographs. His parents’ materials consist of a cookbook with recipes handwritten by Elizabeth; check stubs and account books of both William and Elizabeth; and correspondence, the bulk of which regards the renovation of their house in Upper Falls, MD. The correspondence of William Bose Marye’s maternal grandmother, Arabella Young Gittings, is mainly comprised of letters from her uncle, William Bose, as well as from her husband, David S. Gittings. The extended family materials consist of correspondence, financial records, and clippings about relatives of the Mayre and Gittings families.
