Scope and Contents
This collection contains letters and documents primarily concerning military affairs during the Civil War. Includes letters from William T. Sherman, Philip Sheridan, James Longstreet, and the Count of Paris. There are also personal letters to Mrs. Gibbon from the General during the Civil War and two letters to Miss Frances Gibbon from Cardinal Gibbon, 1901 September 30 and 1913 June 29. There is a copy of General Phillip Kearny's last letter to his wife, 1862 August 31.
There are non-military related letters from Samuel L. Clemens (also known as Mark Twain) and Grover Cleveland.
