Scope and Contents
The Brown Collection consists of 483 negatives in 24 boxes. The images are primarily unidentified views of Baltimore and vicinity taken by members of the Baltimore Camera Club. Most are 5x7 or smaller glass negatives, with some 4x5 or smaller film negatives. The photographs date from 1900 and 1918 with most of taken circa 1900 - 1910. Images include informal and posed portraits, rural scenes (landscape and nature shots), parades (including Baltimore’s homecoming parade of 1907), the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904, beach and boardwalk views, and maritime views.
The photographers are unidentified. Some of the photographs may have been taken by John Dubas, a member of the Camera Club. Others may have been taken by Harry A. Brown, a photographer in Baltimore in the 1890s and early 1900s.
