Scope and Contents
The collection contains the business papers of Captain Benjamin Jenne. Correspondence, bills, and receipts make up the bulk of the documents. The materials represent the typical paperwork of the import and export business, such as bills of lading, invoices, and insurance claims. The letters often contained directions from the companies Jenne worked for regarding shipments and sales of goods. An account of an encounter with the sloop of war, Trumbull, and letters regarding trade with St. Domingo might be of particular interest. The papers are arranged chronologically.
