Scope and Contents
Business records of S. Schapiro and Sons include journal of general expenses (1921-1927) and ledger of accounts, inventories, and assets & liabilities statements (1918-1927). Letters to and from Bernard (Ben) Schapiro (1960-1977) concern Schapiro family history, including information about maternal uncle, Adolph Kres; and interview with the Jewish Historical Society of MD; and tributes to Ben and his recovery from illness (1960). Materials concerning tributes to Ben Schapiro include a scrapbook of items pertaining to a dinner at the governor's mansion (1975); essay by granddaughter, Kathy; reprints form two trade journals on Ben and Joseph (1949; 1976); and items about Ben's "Torch of Learning" award from the Friends of the Hebrew University (1977). Also, printed material on the Jewish home for the aged and infirm, Levindale; recycling industries, including banquet program & tribute dinner announcement; and a magazine reprint and newsclipping on the s.S. President Warfield, later the Exodus.
