Advertisement of William Wilkens, Steam Curled Hair Manufactory on Frederick Road in Baltimore to be sold at New York Depot. Finest quality of pure curled horse and cattle hair at low prices. The William Wilkens (1817-1879) and Co., founded in 1862, was the nation's first manufacturer of dressed fibers and steam curled hair and bristle. Maryland Fiber Corporation incorporated in 1927 and utilized many of the William Wilkens and Co experienced personnel and expertise.
