Informational about Steuart Hall Collegiate and Commercial Institute for Young Gentlemen; boarding school for boys. Printed from the Press of James Young. The institution was located near the suburbs of Baltimore and was formerly a mansion known as "Maryland Square" occupied by General George H. Steuart, associated with the Confederate Army. The Steuart family owned more than 150 slaves and after the Civil War their property was confiscated by the Federal Government. It was also used as a hospital for wounded Union soldiers and 1867 renamed Steuart Hall and later a Catholic convent.
