Scope and Contents
The collection consists of 4,726 slides which illustrate all stages of development of the Inner Harbor and Harborplace. There is some additional written material including letters, brochures, and pamphlets: “Problems and Opportunities of Relocation,’ ‘The Charles center Project’. Dates depicted in the slides range from a print of the harbor in 1860, photographs from 1945 and 1960 to the 1990s. Proposed models of inner harbor buildings and transportation maps for light rail and metro from the 1960s show various plans for development. Slides show the construction of Harborplace, the National Aquarium at Baltimore, the Columbia Center, The Maryland Science Center, The Power Plant, Pier Five Hotel, Pier Six Pavillion, The Gallery, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, M & T Stadium, the Pride of Baltimore and development in the surrounding neighborhoods. Also included are many attractions in the Baltimore area including historic buildings and sites such as Federal Hill, Fort McHenry, Otterbein Church, The Shot Tower, Morris Mechanic Theater, The Johns Hopkins University, The Washington Monument.
The slides were produced by a number of photographers and photographic companies including the following: Paul Blair, D.C. Dunlop, George Graff, Jeremy Green, Mike Latini, Richard C. Lippinholtz, Blakeslee/Lane, Foto Finishers, Northway Studio, The Rouse Company, and many others.
