Biographical / Historical

The son of Irish immigrants, William Cathcart Arthur (1814-1885) was born in Baltimore and lived in the city for his entire life. His occupation is listed in the 1850 Federal Census and the 1860 Federal Census as “Coppersmith.” The 1880 Federal Census lists him as “Clerk- Coal Dealer” and notes that the family lives at 719 Lexington Street.
