Daniel H. Carroll proof of ownership, 1865 April 4

A Proof of Ownership document stating that Littleton Long Sr., a resident of Princess Anne in Somerset County, Maryland, “was the owner of Daniel H. Carroll (a man of African descent) at the time of his enlistment.” Sergeant Carroll enlisted in Company H, Ninth Regiment Infantry, United States Colored Troops on 1863 October 23 and was discharged on 1866 November 26.
