General
Letter from General Smith acknowledging a letter from the Mayor about sitting for his portrait to be placed in the Coucil Chamber of the first branch of Baltimore. He will sit for the portrait when he returns to Baltimore. Sent from Washington. General Samuel Smith served as Major General of Maryland during the War of 1812, commanded defenses at Battle of Baltimore and Fort McHenry. Served as US Senator & Rep of Maryland(1793-1803) and Mayor of Baltimore (1835-1839)
