Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection consists of one box containing two photograph albums related to the Power family of Queen Anne's County, Maryland. The majority of the photographs are captioned, which is indicated in the inventory with a title being in quotation marks.

The photographs depict the Eastern Shore of Maryland as well as locations in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey from circa 1890 to 1900. There are many images of rivers, mills, churches, and historic sites. A number of images document ocean resort life at Rehoboth, Delaware and others depict people engaged in recreational activities such as bathing, boating, and crabbing.

Of particular note are several photographs of African Americans, including an image of a young man dressed in a suit standing in front of the Sussex Hotel located in Seaford, Delaware; a group portrait of a family posing before a house; and a portrait of a woman captioned "Aunt Louisa aged 96."
