Scope and Contents
The Emily Stone Barton Brune Manuscript Collection contains correspondence of Brune, her husband, Frederick William Brune, and other members of their family. The letters primarily discuss personal matters, such as travel arrangements, school, and health. Some of the letters discuss church-related affairs and personal beliefs. Both Frederick and Emily frequently corresponded with Dr. George C. Shattuck, and these letters represent a large portion of the collection. Letters from Frederick to Emily also comprise a significant part of the correspondence. Incoming correspondence to their granddaughters, Evelyn Barton Randall Hanrahan and Emily Brune Randall Webster, and Emily’s sister, Susan Caroline (Carry) Johnston, is also included in the collection.
