Abstract
The collection consists of documents related to the Stewart, Cromwell, and Warnken families, including two family record books listing members of the Stewart family and enslaved individuals.

Biographical / Historical
The Stewart family resided near Ferndale, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Joshua Stewart (1790-1873), the son of Ebenezer Stewart (1754-1814) and Susannah Caples Stewart (1756-1826), married Caroline Cromwell (1796-1879), and they had 10 children. Joshua was a farmer, and he enslaved several laborers. The names of the enslaved individuals are listed in the family records.

Scope and Contents
The collection contains two family record books that list births, deaths, and marriages of both the Stewart family members and the enslaved individuals on the farm. Also included is an assignment of lease to Joshua Stewart and Sedwick M. Stewart for land in Baltimore County; an autograph book belonging to Mary Stewart containing signatures from family members and friends; a genealogical booklet that includes copies of 18th and 19th century Stewart wills made by a family member named Helen; loose genealogical notes on the Stewart, Cromwell, and Warnken families; and photographs and a map of the old Stewart house and graveyard.
