Judge William Purington Cole, Jr. papers
Abstract
This collection contains correspondence, speeches, and documents highlighting the Congressional and Judicial careers of Judge William Purington Cole, Jr. (1889-1957). Topics include the restoration of the North Point Battle Field, 1942; the construction of and funding for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, 1933-1935; the acquisition of Federal funds for the National Cemetery in Baltimore, 1936; and various public works projects, 1928-1942. Famous people with whom Judge Cole was associated include: Governor Albert C. Ritchie, Speaker of the House Samuel Rayburn and Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson, and J. Edgar Hoover.

Existence and Location of Copies
The collection contains typed copies of correspondence, as well as positive photocopies of newspaper articles. The originals of the correspondence are not in the possession of the Maryland Historical Society. The originals of the newspaper articles were discarded after they had been photocopied.
