The ephemera collection consists of over one million items containing obsolete money and lottery tickets, playbills, invitations, billheads, menus, tobacco labels, match books, bottle caps, trade cards, flyers, pamphlets, catalogs, labels, and countless other items bearing advertisements dating from the 18th century to the present.

The ephemera collection is arranged into series by subject matter, then materials are organized into subseries alphabetically, chronologically, or further by subject. Within the subseries, items are arranged alphabetically by the name of the company, organization, or person who produced it. Occasionally an entire subseries may be devoted to a single company, organization, or person.
