Scope and Contents
The Grishington Jones photograph collection consists of 85 photographs relating to Grishington Spicer Jones, Sr. (1802-circa 1879) and his descendants. Jones was born in Baltimore, Maryland and he and his wife, Mary Anne Harvey Jones (died 1873), emigrated to Iowa in the 1860s. The photographs of the Jones’ and related families were passed down to the donor, Jones’ great-granddaughter.
The collection is housed in one box arranged in 11 folders by subject. Materials include tintypes, carte de visites, cabinet cards, photographic prints, and a daguerreotype. Folder one contains some biographical information on the Jones family. Folder two contains photographs, circa 1860 – 1870, from an album belonging to Grishington Spicer Jones, Sr., A few of the pictures are identified on the back; most were taken in Baltimore, Maryland.
