Biographical / Historical
J. Reaney Kelly, a native of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, was educated at Georgetown University. In 1921 he married Elizabeth Frances King (author of the book, Maryland’s Way). Eight years later the Kellys settled at their West River home, "Cumberstone". In his capacity as lecturer and historian Kelly was primarily concerned with the people and places of Anne Arundel County. In 1963 he published Quakers in the Founding of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Kelly, a long time associate of Historic Annapolis Inc., was also a member of the Maryland Historical Society and the Old South River Club.

Scope and Contents
The J. Reaney Kelly Historic Houses Photograph Collection contains photographs of historic Maryland houses circa 1890-1972, assembled by J. Reaney Kelly. Francis E. Engle of Annapolis was the photographer of the photos taken between 1952‑1972. All photographs are of historic properties in Anne Arundel County, except for items depicting Evergreen House located in Baltimore.
