Scope and Contents
In his travel journal, William E. Bartlett, Jr. primarily described his trip to Paris, France in 1847. Subjects that he discussed or mentioned include: weather and wind reports on voyage; street life; gardens and zoos; museums and palaces (such as the Louvre, the Bastille, Fontainebleau, Versailles, and the Tuileries); and the people he met and travelled with. He also included lists of paintings in the Louvre and Palais de Luxembourg. In addition to his personal sketches, he reproduced his passport and letters of introduction into his journal. Cities mentioned other than Paris include Amsterdam, Cologne, Dusseldorf, and Le Havre.
