Scope and Contents

The United Daughters of the Confederacy Records include the minute books and administrative reports of the Maryland Division Executive Board. A portion of records from certain state chapters are featured also. The entire collection spans chronologically from 1936-1984. In addition, various scrapbooks detail events pertaining to the membership and their club related activities.

Maryland Division Executive Board Records are the most chronologically complete. Minutes exist for board meetings from 1936-1984. Included within some records are state meeting reports, convention activity reports (on the state and national organization level), addresses from the state president, along with financial and membership data.

Diverse private, organizational related records, compiled by Maryland Executive Board members, are included. Ruby Duval's album (president, 1960-1962) contains photographs, invitations, correspondence, and newspaper clippings. The scrapbook of Mrs. Guy Hudson Parr (newsletter editor, 1960-1962) contains clippings relating to both the national and local organization. Finally, scrapbooks from Division Historians Mrs. Chester Lewis (1948-1956) and Elizabeth Lee Plummer (1975-1978) detail Maryland organizational events and related historical information.

Partial records pertaining to four state chapters are included. Meeting minutes exist for the Baltimore Chapter #8 (1943-1955), William Rison Chapter #2063 (1932-1964), and the Bradley T. Johnson Chapter #1940 (1970-1976). Scrapbooks that include chapter histories exist for the Co. A, First Maryland Cavalry, CSA #1858 as well as the William Rison and Bradley T. Johnson chapters.
