Biographical / Historical

The Moss family was prominent in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. For many years, the family lived on a farm at Hackett Point. Hamilton Pike Moss was born to Monica Greenwell (1759-1825) and James Moss (1747-1828) on December 23, 1800. He had several siblings who married into other Anne Arundel County families, such as the Hanlons and Merrikens. During the 1840s and 1850s, Moss lived first in Illinois and later Missouri. He later returned to the family farm and died in 1871. The Hackett Point homestead remained in the family until it was sold in 1907.
