Abstract

The collection consists of materials related to Robert W. Armstrong (1828-1902), a Baltimorean who worked as a whaler in the South Pacific for ten years from 1849 to 1859. Materials include Armstrong’s handwritten autobiographical account based on his travel logs, which chronicles his experiences in the whaling industry and his time living overseas; personal materials such as correspondence and his Will; and photographs of the Armstrongs and their extended family.

Dates: 1835-2018; Majority of material found in 1849-1946
