Abstract

This collection contains photographs made or collected by William B. Marye, including formal studio portraits of Gittings family members and other individuals, and a photo of Roslin (also spelled Roslyn), and the Gittings family home near Upper Falls in Baltimore County, Maryland. Other subjects are outdoor views at sites in Maryland counties, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere, some made by William B. Marye and including informal portraits of Edward G. Warns.

Abstract

William Bose Marye was a genealogist for the Colonial Dames of America, a writer on Native American history in Maryland, as well as the corresponding secretary for the Maryland Historical Society, 1939-1969. In this oral history interview, he discusses his family background and boyhood in the Joppatowne area and at 714 St. Paul Street in Baltimore. He also speaks about Jessie Lee Bennett's salon, Maryland families, and many of his contemporaries.
