Abstract
Edith Claude Jarvis was the great-great granddaughter of Francis Scott Key and founder of the Francis Scott Key Bookshop in Georgetown. In this interview, she discusses: Formation of the Society of the Descendants of Francis Scott Key by Arthur Brice in 1963 and its present inactive state; the file of descendants started in 1966 when nuclear submarine Francis Scott Key was christened; the christening ceremony; some early history of Chevy Chase Village and of her father, Herbert Claude; her own career as owner of the Jarvis School and as founder of the Francis Scott Key Bookshop in Georgetown, D.C.
