3 account books show loans made for construction and operation of Barnum's Hotel, holders of stock certificates, and interest payments. A box of papers, 1862-1869, relate to the legal case of David Barnum (1770-1844) vs David C. Gordon et al concerning ownership of Barnum's Hotel.

Biographical / Historical
David Barnum (1770-1844) was born in Connecticut. He was proprietor of hotels in Philadelphia, New York, and Boston before coming to Baltimore where he owned and operated the Indian Queen Hotel. He built Barnum's Hotel in 1826.
