The J. Hall Pleasants Papers consist of nine series of family and business documents which span the years 1773-1957.
James Howard McHenry papers
This collection contains the James Howard McHenry papers, dated 1810-1885. The vast majority of the collection is composed of family and business correspondence, but there are also scrapbooks, clippings, and ledgers.
James McHenry papers
This collection contains five letters from James McHenry to his fiance and later wife, Margaret "Peggy" Caldwell, as well as one letter from Peggy to James, 1783-1789. Also included is an August 1776 letter to James McHenry from Dr. Benjamin Rush, James McHenry's 1781 commission from Congress as major, and an 1822 letter from John Eager Howard Jr. to his brother, Benjamin Chew Howard.
James Teackle Dennis collection
This collection spans the years 1651-1917 and is mostly an autograph collection consisting chiefly of letters written between 1768-1913 by contemporary and historical persons, usually elected MD officials as well as Revolutionary War dignitaries, Civil War combatants, U. S. Presidents, and many prominent men of the time.

This collection contains correspondence and ephemera related to the Jenkins, Whedbee, or Manly families. The collection also includes the Jenkins Family Vault, June 9, 1816; Book - Important Etchings and Engravings by Rembrandt, Durer, Whistler, Haden, Zorn and other Great Masters: The Collection of Mrs. Ellen R. Jenkins; Scrapbook: "Souvenir of Baltimore" with photographs of Baltimore buildings.
